What the Homeowners Wanted
The homeowners originally wanted an expansive deck that ran the length of their home. But there was one problem—they did not want to block the view of the large bay window in their living room.
They imagined two distinct zones on their deck: one for sitting and relaxing and the other for entertaining and eating. However, the large patio dining table would take up too much space, and there wouldn’t be room for these two zones.
After working with the designers at Royal Deck, they found a perfect solution. They designed a cut-out in their deck design and designed a set of built-in benches to make the space more usable.
Details of This Ground-Level Deck with Built-in Seating
The deck itself is constructed from high-quality composite material. Being a ground-level deck, the space between the surface of the deck and the ground is not too large of the space. The deck owners still wanted the aesthetic of having railings, so they were worked into the design.
The railing are a striking white composite and black aluminum balusters, creating a contrasting look against the color of the house and the deck boards. The step-down features stair lighting, illuminating the space for both safety and ambiance. The built-in seating is made from the same composite material as the deck’s surface and is nicely accented with outdoor pillows, which add a lovely pop of color to the space. The homeowners love to change out the pillows to add different vibes for different seasons.
